4 Patio Features You Didn't Know You Needed

by Serenity Harris

Here are seven patio features that will add extra enjoyment and value to your outdoor living, as well as tips on how to arrange them for maximum benefit.

1. Patio Rug

Patio rugs are basically indoor/outdoor rugs that are made with materials that can withstand all kinds of weather conditions. You may not realize the need for a patio rug now, but once you get one, you'll wonder how you ever did without. First of all, patio rugs offer extra grip and friction for slippery wet feet coming out of the pool or off the grass. Patio rugs help you to make seating areas that family members can guests will gravitate to when sitting outside. Patio chairs appear to be simply placed anywhere outside, but once you place a rug underneath, all of a sudden you have a designated cozy area where people feel like they're in a special spot.

For the best effect, choose two or more patio rugs in different sizes, to make several different seating areas in your outdoor living space.

2. Patio Screen Door

Nothing ruins a party faster than a swarm of gnats or a group of hungry mosquitoes. Instead of trying to ward them off with ineffective candles, place a barrier between pests and your guests. A patio screen door from a company like Scott's Screens, will allow the cool breezes in while keeping flying insects out. Now you won't have to warn your party guests to bring insect repellent to your patio gathering.

3. Stereo speaker

If you do any kind of outdoor entertaining, you should have some kind of stereo speaker available to play music appropriate to the occasion. Music can make the difference between a ho-hum outdoor party and a true event that people feel good about attending. These days, you don't have to hardwire a speaker to enjoy music outdoors. Bluetooth speakers are readily available at most electronic and department stores. These speakers require only electrical power, and can be paired with an assortment of mobile devices. Wherever you store your music, you'll be able to play it on your Bluetooth speaker.

4. Plastic dishware

The last thing you want is to break glass outside where people are walking barefoot on your patio. Invest in an entire set of plastic plates and glasses that people can use while enjoying your outdoor space. If something falls to the ground, you won't have to worry about anyone stepping on broken glass.

Now that you have everything to enjoy your outdoor living space, all that's left to do is mail the party invitations!
